Wishbone Games on creating games that are both cutting-edge and easy to enjoy
Hailing from the Welsh city of Cardiff, Wishbone Games is one of the newest exclusive studio partners to join Games Global’s ranks.
Having dropped its first game in June, and the newest release Hermes Bonanza™ just this week, this burgeoning studio is already making an impact with its unique brand of classic yet innovative gaming experiences.
We caught up with Co-Founder Olaf Miska to find out a little more about this exciting new studio’s origins and approach game development, and look ahead to even more exciting things to come...
Q. Tell us a about the studio and your team?
A. While Wishbone Games is a relatively young studio, we have a dynamic and passionate team that has been put together from the industry's veterans and slot enthusiasts. We started our journey in a land-based environment, learning the ropes and gaining valuable insights into the world of slot games.
With this foundation, we transitioned into the online space. Wishbone Games has a strong focus on creating slot games that are simple, feature-focused, and designed to provide a pleasant and easily understandable gaming experience. We prioritise games that are straightforward and offer engaging features without overwhelming players with complexity. Our goal is to craft games that are not only enjoyable but also easy to follow, making them accessible and appealing to a wide range of players.
Q. What makes your studio different to others?
A. While we embrace simplicity and user-friendly design, we also enjoy adding our unique twist to established game mechanics. This means that players can expect a sense of familiarity when they dive into our games, making them easy to pick up and play. However, it's in the innovative and creative ways we enhance these familiar mechanics that our studio truly shines. We take pride in our ability to put a fresh and exciting spin on well-known gameplay elements, ensuring that our titles are not only approachable but also engaging and distinct, providing players with a memorable gaming experience. We like to mix innovation into the equation while still keeping it simple, creating games that are both cutting-edge and easy to enjoy.
Q. What are your standout titles and what made them successful?
A. One of our standout titles is the Blazing Sea series, along with its follow-ups. These games pay a perfect tribute to our beginnings in the industry, capturing the essence of classic slot gaming. Their success lies in their ability to resonate with players who appreciate the simplicity and nostalgia of classic slots.
As we’ve evolved, we have ventured into more complex games with exciting features. Launching globally this week, our most recent release Hermes Bonanza™ is on track to be one of our most successful to date. This game's success can once again be attributed to its simple gameplay features, along with its captivating theme, and the ability to keep players engaged and excited. It showcases our commitment to adapting to changing player preferences while maintaining the quality and entertainment value that players have come to expect from our titles.
What is your personal favourite title from your studio?
My personal favourite has yet to be released, and is currently in development. However, it has truly been the most exciting and fulfilling gaming experience I've had at Wishbone Games! While I can't reveal any more at this early stage, I'm looking forward to the day when players can enjoy the experience as well. It's a project we're very passionate about, and we hope it brings joy and entertainment to our gaming community.
Q. What is your favourite part of the game development process?
A. For me, it’s the early stages of concept and design, and what makes it even more enjoyable is that the whole team takes part in this creative journey. This is where the creative sparks fly, and ideas are brought to life on paper or in digital documents, with input from every member of our talented team.
During this phase, we come together to brainstorm and shape the core concepts that will eventually become a fully-fledged game. It's a time filled with potential and limitless imagination, where we explore innovative gameplay mechanics, unique art styles, and compelling narratives. It's a collaborative period of boundless creativity and problem-solving, as we work collectively to create an experience that will captivate players. The possibilities are endless, and I find this stage of game development incredibly exciting and inspiring, especially when it's a team effort.
Q. What trends do you see for the future of our industry?
A. In the future, the gaming industry will continue to focus on providing entertainment, offering more immersive and engaging experiences for players. At the same time, there will be an increased emphasis on player protection, ensuring that gaming remains safe and responsible. This growth will also allow for increased innovation, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gaming whilst always keeping players safety top of mind. It's all about having fun while exploring new horizons in gaming.
Q. What can we expect from studio roadmap?
A. You can expect a continuous stream of exciting developments. We have some thrilling games in the pipeline that will not only raise the bar in terms of technology and user experience, but will also reflect our dedication to understanding and delivering what players want.
As we gain insights from player feedback and market trends, our games will evolve to meet and exceed player expectations. You can look forward to an enhanced and more immersive gaming experience with each new release.
Additionally, we're planning on expanding our portfolio with the introduction of multiple franchises. This means more diverse and engaging gaming worlds for players to explore. Our roadmap is all about a healthy mix of innovation, improvement, and variety, and we can't wait to share these exciting developments with our gaming community.
